Microbiological Media

BTI Products’ media are liquid growth media contained in sealed, high-impact glass bottles. We use our own proprietary recipes, developed through years of research and testing, to provide conditions favorable for the growth of specific groups of real-world microbes.
BENEFITS:
Here are just a few of the benefits of using BTI Products’ media over other microbial testing products:
- Sensitivity - Our approach allows for the detection of many more microbes than is possible using other methods while still having the broadest detection range of any test method—from one microbe per milliliter to as high a detection limit as you may want.
- Detection/Recovery - Putting our media into sealed glass bottles lets us control the gases in the liquid medium and in the headspace, which provides an environment even more favorable to rapid growth of microbes of the desired types and prevents drying of media (a problem with dipsticks and agar plates). And, each of our media have been formulated to effectively grow specific types of real-world organisms, not just strains of organisms that are cultured in laboratories.
- Eliminates contamination - Enclosed environment eliminates contamination from exposure to air, dust, and contact with surfaces or fingers.
- Tests any type of sample - Liquids, biofilms, swabs, corrosion products, soils, effluent, fuels, etc. can all be tested using BTI Products’ media.
- Ease of interpretation - Positive reactions are definite and rely upon color change or clouding of media.
- No special equipment required - BTI Products’ media are incubated at room temperature in the media/test kit box, therefore, incubators are not required.
PACKAGING:
All media is sold in 20-bottle trays. Instructions and sampling/processing items are not included but can be obtained by contacting us. To view our test kit offerings, see our Diagnostic Test Kits.
BTI-ADS
Anaerobic diluting solution (ADS) is a buffered saline solution which properly preserves viable bacteria—including anaerobes, acid-producing bacteria, and sulfate-reducing bacteria—in swab and solid samples and allows these types of samples to be inoculated into BTI Products’ media.
BTI-AERO Medium
A liquid growth medium for general aerobic bacteria (AERO). Aerobes are very important in forming slimes/biofilms and deposits, which can result in biofouling, deposition, and MIC.
BTI-ANA Medium
A liquid growth medium for anaerobic and/or facultatively anaerobic bacteria (ANA). Anaerobic bacteria are important components in biofouling, deposit formation, and MIC.
BTI-APB Medium
A liquid growth medium for acid-producing bacteria (APB), which are organisms that produce organic acids. Organic acids and APB are very important factors in biofouling, deposit formation, and MIC.
BTI-IRB Medium
A liquid growth medium for iron-related bacteria (IRB), which are capable of precipitating iron through a variety of metabolic processes. IRB are responsible for forming deposits on surfaces, which can lead to greatly accelerated deposition and MIC.
BTI-LNB Medium
A liquid growth medium for low nutrient bacteria (LNB), which often grow in environments with low levels of organic foodstuffs (e.g., potable water, well water, deionized or distilled waters, and condensates). LNB are very important in the processes of biofouling, deposit formation, and MIC in systems using such waters.
BTI-SRB Medium
A liquid growth medium that grows more types of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) more rapidly than API RP-38. SRB are important in advanced cases of MIC.
