Test Results

Why do MICkit® instructions for viable bacteria say to read results after 2, 5, and 15 days?
We suggest reading bacterial results at 2 and 5 days’ time because many clients want to know early on if any MIC-related bacteria are present.  Additionally, test bottles that turn positive quickly indicate a more active population of microbes.  However, some microbes—such as sulfate-reducing bacteria—grow more slowly, making a 15-day final incubation period necessary.

We tested and have found MIC bacteria in our samples.  Now what?
Numbers and types of bacteria that should be a cause for concern depends upon several factors, including:  the type of facility being tested, the type of sample (e.g., liquid, soil), and whether or not the facility is being treated specifically for bacteria.  To discuss levels of concern for your particular application and the next appropriate step of action for your facility, please contact us.

What do our test results mean?

If you have tested a sample using one of BTI Products’ Diagnostic Test Kits, interpretations of test data are provided in the instructions included with the test kit.  As a service to our clients using our Diagnostic Test Kits, we offer MICkit® & MIPkit™ Test Kit Reports which provide written reports on test results and interpretations of the data.

If you have tested using BTI Products’ Microbiological Media, interpretations of data will depend on the application you are testing and the type of dilution series used.  Contact us if you have questions.
